PURPOSE:

To serve those who are in need, in the name of Jesus Christ.
To build Christian community through service.
To deepen our faith in the context of service and teamwork.
To enjoy the blessings of Christian friendship and fellowship.

In 2009, Shadyside Presbyterian Church commissioned nearly 30 people for a mission trip to Mars Hill, North Carolina and were joined by nearly 50 from two other churches. GPC has committed to join this initiative and to work hand-in-hand with these congregations in 2010. We hope that you will consider being one of our team members!

This is an affordable mission and will be subsidized by the church. The starting cost is $260 per person, but that cost will be reduced depending upon the number of participants. This cost covers food and lodging, except for one dinner out. While each member must pay for their own transportation (included in the $260), we will coordinate carpool opportunities.

There is a need for you regardless of the skills you think you may or may not have. Some team members will participate in construction projects, while others may paint a women's shelter. In addition, others may practice the ministry of presence as they visit those who simply need companionship.

We ask that you keep this trip in prayer as you discern if God is calling you to join this mission. Please mark your calendars. Registration will begin in the spring of 2010.
